Most of this video is sound based- but you will be able to see sparkling movement in the water which are some of the hundreds of toads. Every year a great number of toads come to our pond to lay eggs. They sing loudly during this time which usually lasts only two days near Easter. The male toad grabs a piggyback ride on the female and waits for her to lay her eggs. Male toads vibrate when their back is touched to communicate to other toads that they are not a female. This makes it easy to tell the gender of a toad on this weekend. (If toad gender is a concern) It takes several years for a toad to mature to a breeding age. Their eggs come out encased in long curly jelly like strings. Within a few days tiny black tadpoles the size of sesame seeds will gather in the warm shallows.
