SEO MARKETING 101. 1280x720 HD In my 40 minute presentation I look at two sites in detail that are just starting down the road of getting up in Google and the other search engines. TOURS OF SITES We have ENT consultant (http://www.entconsultantsurgeon.co.uk/) Parag Patel Lovestruck Interiors furniture (http://www.lovestruckinteriors.com/) from Amy Dhala COMPETITION I briefly look at the PageRank values of competitor sites which although much less revelant than years ago still plays an important part in Google's valuation of your site. ONSITE I check the Title tags, and think about keywords. Suggest Parag uses "ENT surgeon london" as his keywords to cut out any countrywide or international chaff, and make it easier to rank. "Reloved Furtiure"?? or second hand or restored furniture in london for Amy. Certainly not what she has written there. I notice that Parag's is not finished Amy´s blog is amazing but actually completely useless. She needs to work "smarter not harder" I suggest they need to setup a page for each "item" or "service" Treatments section needs 10 or 20 links to other pages e.g. Nose job. Loads of technical details about what the hell you doing in there. This is called "Link Bait" because if there is a load of specialised writing in there "content" then occassionally say when a lecturer from the US is reasearching a class he will stumble apon it. And if it has "Authority" then he will copy it or better link to it. Similarly Amy needs to move the products for sale on to their own pages, and consider the subjects of her blog posts. OFFSITE basically this is links, that is, hyperlinks to your own sites. I currently use backlinkwatch.com which shows which other sites are linking to you. Both example sites currently get a big zero of links. Getting LINKS is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do, if you don't do that you won't have any PageRank and you will only appear on page 50 of Google where no one will see it. Some simple free things to do: 1) Google Places. Sign up and put a free listing on. In my demo I couldn't find it, but Google does put up a Google Map often and puts prefessionals and services on it. 2) Google analytics. If you can't tell how many more visitors your site is getting e.g. because you spent an hour on the phone to your friend begging him for a link, you can't get enthused about doing it more. Google Analytics provides a very deep insight into your sites behaviour and is recommended. 3) Dmoz. Old and not so good as before, but still worthile plugging in a request and as bricks and mortar businesses getting a recent PR link back. Other directories. Look at your competitors and industry specific verticals and advertise on them. That concludeds main presentation but later we can do... LATER Use tools like Copyscape. Add more semantic markup like tagging to tell google what products you have, where you are based in the world, get customer reviews of products or services.
