Silence in EU parliament for shooting victims

(12 Dec 2018) The European Parliament held a minute's silence on Wednesday for the victims of the deadly shooting in Strasbourg as the legislature based in the French city remained on lockdown in the aftermath of the attack. Spanish MEP Teresa Jimenez-Becerril proposed the minute's silence for those killed and injured when a gunman opened fire at a Christmas market on Tuesday night. Three people were killed and a further 12 injured. The parliament building was locked down and MEPs were prevented from leaving as the search continued for the alleged gunman. The suspect, who has been flagged as a possible extremist, is still at large and French prosecutors have opened a terror investigation.
