http://www.BluegrassTeam.com Come see why we LOVE it here. It's better in Danville, KY http://www.BetterInDanville.com - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear Young Entrepreneur INTRODUCTION: Good morning everyone. Thank you for coming out on a completely dreary day. I mean it is just terrible out there, but what we have to talk about today is exciting. John Roush and President of Centre College, on behalf of Centre students, faculty, and staff, I want to welcome you to this historic campus this morning for an announcement about an important partnership between a truly exceptional entrepreneurial, national organization, Commonwealth of Kentucky, an our local community. Most notably they are the fruits of Danville, Boyle County Chamber of Commerce. It's fitting to make this announcement I would argue on our campus since the effort we now join began on a college campus. Since its creation some nine years ago it has empowered young men and women across the country to launch more than 800 small businesses. You had that idea [pointing to J. Hunter Simmons]. That Saturday, and we'll talk about that more. I also want to say a word as Governor it is important to be in this room. Isaac Shelby was an honest to God revolutionary hero who then made his way into public service my guess is kicking and screaming and served as the first Governor of Kentucky. He was also the first chair, chairman back in that day of Senator Board of Trustees, and we had meetings in this room. Richard Trollinger actually doesn't allow us to have a lot of meetings in this room; very disruptive to his work. Anytime we have meetings in this room, I'm always feeling a little bit in awe of the time the person and the impact that Isaac Shelby as Governor, first Governor of Kentucky had in the lives of so many people and in the history of our commonwealth. Now, my part is rather insignificant. It's my chief pleasure to introduce you to one of the bright lights who is helping to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit across the country, ladies and gentlemen please join me in welcoming the executive director of the Young Entrepreneur's Academy, Heather Forbes, Heather. HEATHER: I am so excited to be here today with all of you and the students, congratulations, guys you really are trailblazers .This is very exciting. The college and local chamber are bringing something truly life-changing to Danville Kentucky, Boyle County, and it's really an honor to be part of it. Ninety years ago on another beautiful campus hundreds of miles away north, something big was formed. Local entrepreneurs and educators all came together to create something unique, something that would empower local students to identify their passions and transform even their biggest dreams into real enterprises, so it started with a seventeen student class, ninety years ago in Rochester, New York has now grown to be a national movement, and this year we are so excited that this movement has come to Kentucky. Through the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, middle and high school students all across Danville, Boyle County, are pitching plans for real investors, opening real bank accounts, creating real jobs in their own neighborhoods. They are learning how to write a business plan, identify business opportunities, manage risks, and understand that they can achieve anything that they put their minds to all at a very young age. Schools and communities are building confident, talented, highly motivated young leaders who score higher levels in reading and math, achieve higher graduation rates, and achieve college scholarships as well. I think safely I can say that Centre College is going to have some great candidates for their college right here from Danville KY, Boyle County in just a few years as well. So I speak for our entire team at YEA when I say how fortunate we are to have launched the academy here in Danville KY, Boyle County, and it's now my pleasure to introduce a man whose efforts help bring the YEA program here as well. He created and became chair of the YEA steering committee and has helped secure the business support this initiative deserves. He is also one of the investors this year, and is a big investor now with us, so please me in welcoming Mike Perros.
