Dr. Jack Halberstam discusses with Red Washburn the importance of gender and the future of gender studies. These talks advocate for institutional support for Women’s and Gender Studies at CUNY Kingsborough, which was the first community college in CUNY to offer such a program, yet has been defunded after 24 years by the administration despite local and national advocacy, including across the CUNY’s and the National Women’s Studies Association.

Jack Halberstam is Professor of English and Director of the Institute for Research on Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Columbia University.

Red Washburn is Associate Professor of English and Director of Women’s and Gender Studies at CUNY Kingsborough, as well as Adjunct Associate Professor of Women and Gender Studies at CUNY Hunter.
