After trying to fly a helicopter in DCS World using a regular joystick, I found the experience to be less than satisfying.
The sim is an amazing experience, but the typical joystick just isn't suited for helicopter flight. I wanted a more natural feel.
So I gutted my stick when one of the pots failed with the intention of making an improved one.
Last week I got the idea of attaching the shaft to a gimbal and mounting an EDTracker to the bottom. Instead of head tracking it would become the cyclic stick, and up my sensitivity from 256 points to 32,768.
Early tests indicate success!
Now I just need to create a better mounting solution and go from there.
In this test flight I found the movements a lot smoother and had much less of the pilot induced oscillation I'd encounter with a regular joystick.
