Defense Secretary Jim Mattis defended the deployment of 5,800 U.S. troops on the southern border on a visit to troops in Texas, calling the action 'good training.' He also invoked the hunt for Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa. His visit came as critics, including retiring Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, said the deployment was a 'stunt' ordered by President Donald Trump to raise alarms about the immigrant caravan approaching the border.
