United Nations, 3 March 2009 - Press statement by the President of the Security Council and Chargé daffaires of the Permanent Mission of Libya, Mr. Ibrahim Dabbashi, on the recently established Special Tribunal for Lebanon. The members of the Security Council welcomed the commencement of the functioning of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on 1 March 2009 in The Hague as an important step by Lebanon and the international community to bring to justice those responsible for the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and 22 others on 14 February 2005 and related cases, in conformity with the Statute of the Tribunal, and to end impunity in Lebanon.
