I have picked the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 as a dedicated .22 training rifle. I will discusses important things to think about when deciding to train with a .22 if full power ammo is too expensive or hard to find. First and foremost is the economy. Expect about 1/10th the cost of centerfire alternatives. For that huge cost reduction, I send 1000s, not 100s, of rounds downrange. This allow outstanding levels of fun and training you just cannot afford with centerfier (unless you're sponsored!). More good things follow: less noise/blast (also a good thing), good accuracy, and the ability to engage close-range steel targets.
