Make your own straight-through Ethernet patch cable from a length of Cat 5. This is a hands-on walkthrough: strip the jacket, untwist and line up the colored pairs, cut them clean, seat them in an RJ45 connector, crimp, and test. The key rule shown here is that both ends use the same color order so you get a working straight-through cable (not a crossover). ⏱ Chapters: 0:00 What we're making: a straight-through patch cable 0:41 Strip the jacket off the Cat 5 with a wire stripper 1:34 Untwist the pairs (straight-through vs. crossover) 2:33 Line up the wires by color order 4:08 Cut the wire ends clean and even 4:52 Slide the wires into the RJ45 connector 5:15 Crimp the connector down 5:47 Do the matching second end 6:20 Test the cable to confirm it works ▶ Part of the "Home Lab" series 🧭 Going from help desk to sysadmin?
