In Britain, the crisis on the property and financial markets has already trickled down to the street. It wasn’t long ago that City bankers liked to say that "lunch is for losers" -- but these days, many of them are staying in the office at midday instead of hitting the nearest restaurant in order to save money. In the supermarkets, demand for lunchboxes and thermos flasks has doubled, while consumers are opting for no-name products and low-cost choices. Major spending is also down - car dealerships say that sales are lower than they have been in years. Pawn shops, on the other hand, say business is booming.
