In the second match on the penultimate day of the women's Champions Trophy in Argentina, Germany and China played out a goalless draw to produce the tournaments first penalty shootout, with China emerging victorious.

China had the chance to break the deadlock early on when they were awarded a penalty stoke after replays showed Nike Lorenz had handled the ball, but Mengyu Wang's shot was then saved by Yvonne Frank. 

Germany themselves could have grabbed a winner late on through captain Julia Muller but her shot was saved well by Dongxiao LI.

Into the shootout and with the teams still level after 5 attempts it came to sudden death. Yang Peng calmly slotted in to give China the edge meaning Germany had to score but Lisa Schutze sent her shot crashing off the crossbar to hand China the win and leave Germany in tears.
