How do we grow our business and still have family time? 

There’s a ton of truth in the statement: Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. 

If you’re like most business owners who have spent time, money, and energy into your business, you might be asking “Why the heck would I want to take a step back?” Or “How could I take a break?”

That’s what I thought too in 2014 when years of hard work finally came into fruition and things were taking off in my business in the form of a best selling book, a regular segment in a nationally syndicated morning show, and a whirlwind of U.S. tour around for events. Life was good!

Until that conversation with my daughter in the kitchen one Sunday afternoon when my daughter confused me for our nanny, Ms. Angela, not once, not twice but three times in less than 30 minutes!

That hit me like a ton of bricks. And as a mother, I knew I had to examine myself and how and where I was spending my time and attention. 

That’s why in 2015, I stepped back, went to California for a spring break and spent much much more time with my daughter. I expected to enrich my family relationship and it was so worth it. But other things happened as well that were beautiful bonuses.

1.    People respected me more - me saying no because of family commitments actually inspired others to step back and prioritize their family. 
2.    I earned more money - women from states that I haven’t been to, as a result of my break, were more likely to come and see me in events. 
3.    I got to know myself better - at the end of it all, I got really clear about what I wanted to do and how I was going to be perceived in the marketplace. 

So I never really took a step back to begin with, as all these things were a giant leap forward to my goals. Standing up for matters in your life right now may ultimately lead you to success!
