Adrian Marett talks to Bill King about new initiatives from City of Birmingham. CITY of Birmingham championship show has announced that it will be twinned with two international shows in Spain. With the support of its patron, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Bill King, chairman of City of Birmingham was delighted to announce the new initiative before the best in show judging on Sunday. Official shields President Jose Haro de Haro (known as Pepe) was present to accept the twinning with Seville and Jerez and to receive the City's official shields. Mr King, said: "The aim of the twinning is to build closer relations with dog showing friends in mainland Europe, while Spanish judges will be able to assess more dogs in any breed here than they will have experienced in Spain." The City of Birmingham dog show was originally founded by the city council in 1948 as a means of recreation for the community. It has grown to such a level that it is now held at the National Agricultural Centre and not in a park. Mr King added: "The Lord Mayor keeps in close touch and we are proud that the mayor had given permission to exchange the shields."
