Dechen builds from his intimate understanding of Buddhist teachings a compelling and accessible story illustrating how Love and Compassion can overwhelm the forces that compel children to exercise dominance over others. Based on his personal experiences while a student at Eaglebrook School, Dechen draws the audience into the turbulent world of adolescence, rife with conflict and experimentation, and then helps to chart a path forward empowered by the capacity of loving and exercising compassion. Dechen is accompanied by his classmate from Eaglebrook, Benson Sebastian a.k.a. Ben Vita, Eaglebrook class of '87, who is a visual artist and third generation musician. Ben plays percussion with many singers, speakers and bands and is also a recording artist, composer, and producer with his bands Arms, Tribe 1 and solo as Ben Vita. He has been friends with Dechen for over 30 years. Karl Dechen Thurman is an actor, fantasy book reviewer, film producer, shiatsu masseur, and yoga coach. He is best known for his work at Jivamukti Yoga, Ohashi Institute, and Tibet House, but has moved forward into film production and his own brand of holistic wellness, Grahapada.com. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
