Tom Bernard and Michael Barker, with the late Marcie Bloom, created Sony Pictures Classics in 1991. The division has had highs and lows, but is the longest running "Studio Dependent" in the indie world, largely because of the independence that Sony has allowed the division. Things are changing in the indie world, so David Poland took some time to speak to these industry leaders about the state of the movie union.
