In the course of 43 naval battles under his command he did not lose a single ship and never lost a battle. In 1807 Ushakov resigned from the navy and withdrew to Sanaksar Monastery, in present day Moldovia. During the Great Patriotic War, the Supreme Soviet of the USSR established the "Order of Ushakov"; Bestowed to command naval officers for outstanding leadership. The Order is still in use to this day. In 2000 the Russian Orthodox Church glorified him as patron saint of the Russian Navy.
