Across the East, activists are locked into a running battle with private security forces.

A Polish road protester clings to the roof of a house which is being bulldozed and caves in. Young people object to the mass influx of Western business and values. Poland will join the EU, but must build a massive road network to catch up. Slovakia wants to join, but its nuclear plants will never meet the safety regulations. Activists warn a villager about the local nuclear power station. "Why can't we have one? Only the Austrians object!" she rants. In these conservative countries, it's still deeply rooted that those who protest will be damned. Especially in authoritarian countries like Belarus, where the President names Hitler as a personal hero. "I'm biogas, made from shit" giggles one girl on a street demo. But it's no laughing matter that some of her friends are in prison for doing what they do. Under Communism direct action was unheard of, but now young people are realising that it is one of the most powerful tools of resistance.
