Having successfully forecast the commencement of the 2008 credit crisis, Toby Birch has turned his attention to the future of finance. He explains how digital currencies democratise money, devolving power from private monopolies into public hands by way of a national dividend. This form of reverse taxation was commonplace in Ancient Greece, Rome and Persia. Just as modern chefs deconstruct tired dishes into sophisticated platters, Toby's goal is to create a currency that combines ancient wisdom with the latest technology. He will lead by example, creating the 'Digital Double' to make Guernsey's currency the best in the world by 2020; backed by real assets but better still, the talent of its inhabitants. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
