HISTORY was made at AgriScot when the same exhibitor produced the top two winners – the prestigious Supercow and Superheifer, and with the same breed. It was a dream come true for Cheshire breeder, Mark Nutsford and his Riverdane herd, as not only was he producing his first supreme heifer here with the Holstein, Riverdane Brady Sharon VG87-2yr, and his third overall cow champion, in Sahara Sanchez Ambrosia 3, but he was also winning at one of his favourite events. Sahara Sanchez Ambrosia 3, a Ex94-2-7yr classified cow shown by Mr Nutsford, who had bought a half share of this big, white cow two years ago from Mick Collins, who in turn had purchased Ambrosia at the Andrew Bunting's herd dispersal, from Annan. Judge, Kevin Wilson, who owns the Warnelview herd, in Cumbria, was equalled impressed by the show and by his winners. "I had five tremendous cows to chose from and the Holstein just excels through her height and width of udder and great fore rib. She has a fantastic back door and spring of rib," he said after presenting the reserve SuperCow honours to the champion Jersey, Bluegrass Vindication Harp, owned by a consortium of Irish producers. Mr Wilson added: "It is a mind-blowing show with the stand out thing for me being the quality of the udders in all the breeds. I have won this show in the past, but it is a far better quality event now." His SuperCow is a white, fourth calver by Gen-Mark Stmatic Sanchez, and bred from a VG89 second calver. She was winning her first inter-breed title, having previously won several red tickets at various events south of the Border and a breed championship at Nantwich. A former All Britain cow and milky with it, she calved nine months previously and is still producing 55 litres per day. Reserve Champion was the well-known show Jersey, Bluegrass Vindication Harp, an Ex94 classified cow that boasts three championship titles at the Borderway UK Dairy Expo; two at the Highland and one at UK Dairy Day. Owned by the Fleming family, John Henning and Keith Agnew, all from Northern Ireland, this fourth calver is attended to on a daily basis by Brian and Michael Yates, East Logan, Castle Douglas.
