What documents do I need to prepare before I arrive to Canada?

Before you arrive in Canada, you need to prepare the necessary official documents for you and
your family members in order to facilitate the transition into your new life. Although you may not
necessarily need all documents from this list, it is recommended to obtain them, as they are
usually more difficult to obtain once you enter Canada.
The list of required documents in original usually includes:
● Birth and baptismal certificates
● Passports
● Marriage, separation or divorce certificates
● Children’s adoption records
● Death certificate for a deceased spouse
● School records, educational diplomas and certificates, including course transcripts
● Medical and dental records, including prescriptions, test results, x-rays and allergies
information
● Reference letters from former employers
● Car registration documents for a vehicle imported into Canada
● Photocopies of original documents
You need to translate all your originals into English or French. Depending on the location where
you intend to live in Canada and the type of documents that need to be translated you will need
to provide general, certified or notarized translations of these documents.
