High Court has observed that once Public Interest Litigation is filed before court, the petitioner can't withdraw it, without court's permission. The High Court further observed that if the cause raised in a PIL is genuine, Court can continue with that PIL with or without the petitioner. The High Court has made this observation, while disposing off a petition filed by activist Kashinath Shetye. In its verdict given in a petition filed by activist Kashinath Shetye, the High Court has rapped the petitioner over his statement, during the hearing that he will withdraw all his Public Interest Litigation. Slamming Kashinath Shetye for his misconduct the High Court has observed that HIGH COURT OBSERVES... When confronted with a question of the inappropriateness of his petition, He tells us he will withdraw all of his several hundred petitions. If this is supposed to be some sort of threat, or meant to intimidate, it is an epic failure. He is also mistaken if he believes that he can withdraw a PIL without our leave.
