Lakota Local Schools students go back to school

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Lakota Local Schools, one of the larger school districts in the Tri-State, went back to school August 16.

District officials say they have many new security measures in place this year including more school resource officers and an anonymous tip line.

The district is also focusing on mental health and there will be more emphasis on communication between teachers and students.

"One thing we're trying to do, and we've done this always but we're trying to put an emphasis on it district-wide as well, is we're trying to build relationships," says Lakota West Principal Elgin Card. "On the first two day of school, teachers aren't passing out syllabuses and going over all these rules and passing out books, we're going to learn about each other."

Lakota is also increasing access to technology. All seventh and eighth graders will get a district-owned Chromebook.
