Watling has played 19 tests and 21-year-old, India-born Sodhi five tests. The rest of the Northern squad for the Gisborne match are skipper Daniel Flynn (24 tests), former one-day international Graeme Aldridge, Joe Carter, Scott Kuggeleijn, Daryl Mitchell, Bharat Popli, Mitchell Santner, Anurag Verma and Brad Wilson.
