If you haven't noticed, Woodward Avenue has been ripped apart in portions of downtown and Midtown Detroit. The work being done is for the M-1 Rail, Detroit's first street car system since the last remnants of a once-expansive network was torn up in the 1950s. Construction workers will be welding 80-foot pieces of steel into into 40, 560-foot strings of “Continuously Welded Rail," according to M1 Rail officials. Once completed the rails will later be transported to Woodward.
