William Maxwell Gruff was born in 1933 to Mr. and Mrs. Stephen K. Gruff. He lived on a small farm in Toad Suck, AR and needless to say, he felt his life waslacking in several areas.

When the second World War came, William went to enlist and train as an air force pilot. He was not accepted due to the fact that he was flat-footed, a goat and was allergic to certain types of shellfish and clouds. You can imagine that all of the cloud pollen in the air could have caused him to break out into hives mid-flight and he was considered to be more a hindrance than a help. William Maxwell Gruff would sit on the roof of the barn and watch as the boys would fly theyre planes over head, his heart tinged with both pride and melancholy.

In his old age, Billy has taken to sitting atop the roof of the farm house and now fancies himself the Red Baron, much in the fashion of a very famous pup from a certain cartoon strip. If Grandma Gruffs red wig is missing, the kids know that that day was an Airheart day for Grandpa and let it pass without another word.

The end.
