This is a video in my Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.  

This Core Concept video focuses on W.D. Ross' discussion of the prima facie duty of Self-Improvement in chapter 2 of his work The Right and the Good. This is a set of duties that a person has towards themselves, involving benefitting themselves in terms of greater moral virtue or greater knowledge. He does not think we have a duty to produce greater pleasure for ourselves, since we tend to do that naturally.
