UPDATE: After this hilarious attempt, which was full of anticipation, Savvy competed in Utility 5 more times, and qualified in 3 of them, all with scores in the 190's, and all with 1st places. So he's now a UD.

*********************

Savvy is a 10 year old, 100% clicker-trained Border Collie that retired from obedience when he was 3 years old. We spent most of the intervening time living in a high-rise in Istanbul, with no access to training facilities, trials, matches, etc. We just moved back to America 6 weeks ago, and started practicing at home. This was Savvy's second Utility trial in his life, the first one being 7 years previously. Savvy started out by not retrieving his metal article, and instead bringing back a random leather one. After that, he wanted to rush through to the end to get his reward treats, so he anticipated most of the rest of the exercises. (Out of the 9 dogs in Utility A at this trial, only one received a qualifying score, which is typical.) Considering the circumstances, I was very happy with his performance and attitude. We'll just have to start finding matches and new places to train to I can re-introduce distractions and teach him to wait for my cues.
