President Obama has launched another effort to get a deal with the Republicans on taxation and spending. He says he'll cut the rate companies pay in tax. He says he'll lower the maximum rate from 35 to 28 percent. He also wants to close loopholes that mean companies can avoid taxes on their foreign earnings. But in return he wants to use the billions of dollars in tax revenues on infrastructure and education spending. Republicans seem unlikely to back the latest move. They're opposed to extra spending. We also look at Zimbabwe where elections take place this Wednesday. Five years ago, the economy there was very bleak with supermarket shelves bare and inflation running at more than 230 million percent. Things have certainly improved since then. But in elections today, voters face a choice between two very different approaches. We have a report. There's a raft of companies reporting in France with results from BNP Paribas and EADS, which is also changing its name to Airbus. Carmaker Peugeot Citroën has also been given the green light by the European Commission for a €7.5 billion restructuring plan. And we look at New York and the latest stage of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's long-running battle to ban sugary drinks over 16 ounces or around half a litre. It still isn't in force after a court blocked it just a day before it was due to take effect. Now a higher court has also said it's unlawful. The mayor himself says he'll fight on. We take the temperature of a few New Yorkers. Watch France24 business news with Matthew Warren. 07/31/2013 BUSINESS BULLETIN You are watching the latest business report from FRANCE 24.
