Budd RDCs at Oregon's TriMet - January 2014

When this video was made in January 2014, these two Budd RDCs were said to be the last RDCs in revenue service in the United States. They were held in reserve at Wilsonville, Oregon, as replacements for the regular commuter trains in service on TriMet. The classic fluted stainless steel car bodies of the RDCs were once fairly common sights on American railroads in the 1950s and into the 1960s. These two examples were built in 1952 and 1953 for the New Haven Railroad, later becoming part of Penn Central. RDC number 1702 later served Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and number 1711 served with Amtrak before both went to Alaska Railroad. TriMet bought them from Alaska in 2011.
