Drive-in movie theaters are a classic part of Americana and car culture. At the end of 2013, the majority faced closure with Hollywood's switch from film to digital projection. America’s 400 remaining drive-ins are mostly family-run businesses with very low profit margins, making an $80,000+ upgrade to digital projection unaffordable.

To shine a light on the problem and help save this historical American icon, Honda launched Project Drive-In, donating five projectors to the cause and enlisting America’s help with voting to decide which drive-ins to save. To award the projectors, we visited winning drive-in owners, posing as news reporters covering the impending digital conversion. After a few questions, we finally told them they had actually won a digital projector and captured their reactions and the impact on their community.
