One major media public opinion survey shows the American public split over the government's financial bailout, after President Bush's address to the nation.
Mr. Bush proposes the government spend up to $700 billion buying devalued securities, in an effort to stave off what he said would be a long recession.
Many people who spoke with correspondents at VOA domestic bureaus expressed skepticism about a plan they say seems to reward irresponsible spending.
VOA's Carolyn Presutti took to the streets to find out what Americans are saying about the plan.
