I am only aware of one statement from a Mattel representative made regarding the name change. The representative stated that "It had been so long since we produced it, we lost the rights to the name." As others have mentioned in the comments, Paddy may also be used as an ethnic slur towards Irish so Mattel may have decided to stop using the term.
The Copper Stopper from the Hot Wheels Boulevard series has been around for over 40 years! Well, actually, the name has only been around since 2009 but for many decades, it was called the Paddy Wagon.
