Mama Edwina, 65, describes how she was raped while trying to collect water. In Salamabila, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has treated 157 people for sexual violence since April, many of who say their attacker was an armed man. “When we see a fighter’s clothing, we shake with fear,” Mama Edwina says. Afterwards, because rape is taboo, it's difficult for survivors to talk about about it and get the care they need. MSF is the only organization providing treatment in the area and more assistance is badly needed.
