Tibetan monks from the Namgyal Monastery and Institute of Buddhist Studies created a sand mandala at the Hood Museum of Art, from January 19 - 22, 2011. After working on the sand mandala for three days, the monks then cleared it to exemplify the impermanence of life. As the Dartmouth community looked on, the monks then poured the sand into the waters of Occom Pond, where it disseminated into the world to benefit all beings.
