Esther Williams was an American national competitive swimmer and MGM actress. She made in the 1940s and early 1950s what were known as "aquamusicals," which featured large scale performances with synchronised swimming and diving. She was married four times and her last marriage was to Argentine actor/director, Fernando Lamas. Iwill never forget her on the "Ellen Show" She was describing how she broke her neck filming a 115 feet dive off a tower during a climactic musical number for the film Million Dollar Mermaid and ended up in a body cast for seven months. She said "they put me on this high, high platform wearing this little tin crown. When I jump and started to come down I looked at the water and said oh shXXt!!!!"
"Beyond the Sea" is a 1945 love song with music taken from the song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet. It has been recorded numerous times but Bobby Darin's 1959 is probably the most famous version. This beautiful version here is performed by the 101 Strings Orchestra. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
