Peter Welford is a contemporary figurative artist. He works out of the 16th Century solar tower at Gwydir Castle in Wales. This is his story. Why We Create is a short documentary series that explores the lives and work of artists, musicians and craftspeople. Most of my friends and colleagues are either musicians, artists, dancers or craftspeople of some kind. It has long been an ambition to document the lives of those so many talented people that I know and will hopefully come to know along the way. This series is a testament to their hard work, dedication and passion that has allowed them to break the mold and make a living from what they love. Each film focusses on a different person and tries to get under the skin of what it is they do - the habits, the routines, the superstitions and the techniques. Each film also tells a personal story about the reasons and motivations for their passion and direction in life. I hope you enjoy the series. Tom
