Definition Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves placing a patient or injured in an enclosure under pressure and administer oxygen through an inhaler. The patient is placed in a waterproof case that one will gradually pressurize up to the internal pressure that is greater than the atmospheric pressure which results on the one hand a gas volume reduction (increased barometric pressure) and on the other hand an increase of the partial pressure of oxygen (oxygen inhalation higher pressure). Hyperbaric oxygen therapy allows to influence tissue ischemia whatever the cause: vascular, traumatic, toxic, or infectious, with a significant rise in the partial pressure of oxygen.
