Murder Suspect Leads Officers on Pursuit November 10, 2013: Llano,Texas: Murder Suspect Leads Multiple Agencies on High Speed Pursuit That Ends in Crash. The pursuit began shortly before 8:00pm when Burnet County officers observed a vehicle that was missing from the scene of a homicide in the 2800 block of Hwy 29 in Burnet County. Investigators at the scene observed the vehicle in the area and a traffic stop was initiated, but the suspect refused to stop. The vehicle driven by Matthew Reed of Burnet continued West bound on Hwy 29 into Llano County. Llano County Sheriff Deputies joined in the pursuit when it entered Llano County. Llano Police set up spike strips at the city limits in case the pursuit made its way into the city but they were not needed. The pursuit reached speeds near 100 mph at times with the suspect driving on the wrong side of the highway at times. The pursuit never reached Llano as a DPS trooper was able to pull along side the vehicle and perform a pit maneuver to end the chase. The truck rolled about 100 yards and landed in a pasture on the North side of Hwy 29. Matthew Reed 23 of Burnet was transported by Llano County EMS and later booked into Burnet County Jail on charges of murder, evading arrest with a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The homicide victim was has been identified as Farest Elmo Reed 85 of Burnet. He is believed to be the grandfather of the suspect. According to a press release from Burnet County Sheriff W. T. Smith Farest Reed had obvious trauma to his head area. An autopsy has been ordered to be performed at Travis County Medical Examiner's Office.
