Koga uses poison-type Pokemon (and an Electrode for some reason). What he likes to do is use Double Team so your attacks will miss. Then he'll poison you and have your Pokemon faint by poisoning. Psychic and ground-type Pokemon are excellent for this battle! However, ground-type attacks will not hurt his Venomoth. So use a different Pokemon for that.
