Additional thoughts:
StarKiller Base was a detraction from the film, and a self aware joke that was costly to the movies time.

In ANH, they used Alderaan as an emotional poker chip with Leia, so it placed a strong emotional connection to its destruction and main characters of the film. They destroyed 5 planets or so in the film with the StarKiller base and the biggest deal about it was Finn's reaction and the destruction of a new republic we heard nothing about. Finn's knowledge of the StarKiller facilities's function as a sanitation Stormtrooper boggles the mind in convience. Poe Dameron's appearance of the film was pretty Ex Machina in the way they introduce him as the Resistance Ace pilot with no backstory who flies into a hole unintentionally created and destroys the StarKiller base has no weight to it. The entire StarKiller sub-plot of the film detracts from the characters in a very negative way.

If Phasma survived the StarKiller Base destruction is would be more of an implausible escape than that of Boba Fett escaping the Sarlac pit.

I loved a lot of the new characters, but we hardly get much from them because of these excuses for action sequences.
