(25 Oct 2018) SCOOTER BRAUN STAYS POSITIVE AFTER NATIONWIDE BOMB INTERCEPTIONS: IT'S THE 'ONLY WAY TO STRIKE OUT FEAR' Dominating headlines Wednesday (24 OCT. 2018) were the intercepted bomb packages, sent to The Obamas, Clintons and CNN. But at the Pencils of Promise gala, energy was positive. "I think it's always important. The only way to strike out fear is to come back with positivity and take the narrative back. And you got to live life," said Scooter Braun. Braun is the talent manager for clients such as Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber and a prominent philanthropist. His brother, Adam Braun, is the founder of Pencils of Promise – an organization that supports education expansion in developing countries. "Every single one of my clients has stepped up in a way to give back, which is a big part of our company and something that we implement in everything that we do," said Braun. Bieber gives back by supporting Pencils of Promise. Karlie Kloss, another Braun client, uses Kode with Klossy as her platform, teaching young girls to code and become tech leaders. Braun commended Grande on "stepping up and dealing with what she dealt with over the last two years." Grande has most recently dealt with the passing of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. And in 2017, a terrorist attack unfolded at her pop concert in Manchester, England, leading to the death of 22 audience members. "Luckily, with the people I work with, we become like family. And she and I have been through a lot together, you know, ups and downs and tragedy. And that makes people come together like family. So, she's family to me," said Braun. Also attending the gala was Lil Jon. The rapper has founded two schools in Ghana after partnering with Pencils of Promise. "For me it's just like every kid deserves an education because with an education you can go on to do anything in the world. So, I think education is key. Knowledge is key. So I think that's the most important thing. Every child should have the opportunity to get a proper education," said Lil Jon. "Dancing with the Stars" entertainer Valentin "Val" Chmerkovskiy has also founded schools in Ghana, naming one after his grandmother who passed away. "This is by far one of the proudest, if not the most proud, moment in my career," said the dancer. "For me, fame is a nuisance unless I use it for the right cause and this… I'm so glad that I've found this cause because it really is a fulfilling one for me, personally." Zane Lowe, DJ and television presenter, also understood why artists would want to use their platforms to make a change. "Art now, in every form, has gone beyond lifestyle, it's become a part of life," said Lowe. "And, you know, life is full of triumph and challenge. And art should reflect that where it can and where it feels comfortable, you know. So it makes sense. People want to do it, they should do it."
