3x Emmy Winner Regina King may become an Oscar Winner in IF BEALE STREET CAN TALK

In my opinion yes.  Regina Kings performance as the mother to her daughter Tish, played by KiKi Layne, who is navigating some of the toughest moments of her young life was both touching and textured in a way that I think the Academy will recognize and frankly Regina has been on a role where people can no longer overlook her great performances.   After making a mark in TV the last several years audiences will be demanding to see more of her on the big screen and what better way to do that than recognize her for this excellent performance.  After watching the film I was struck by the whole cast and think the strong cast pushes the picture into contention for best picture because as sure as I am about Regina King’s performance, I also suspect that newcomer KiKi Layne will also get strong consideration as may Stephan James.   All of the performances were extraordinary with my only consternation is that the picture the photography was so brilliant that it at times interrupted the story.   Colman Domingo and Michael Beach and all of these great actors that were on screen were perfect their roles and the story the biggest crime that Barry committed is that there was not more of them to see.   This was easily my favorite film from Toronto Film Festival and is on the shortlist to be a contender.
