Do you think that practice in puppy training makes perfect? It doesn't. Perfect practice makes perfect. What practice does, is it makes permanent. So those times that you are rewarding your puppy in the wrong position, when you're trying to teach your 8-week old puppy to listen, or accidentally rewarding them for making a mistake are working against you. Puppies learn to do what they find rewarding. If you're rewarding your puppy while he is standing after completing a great sit stay, then he will find the standing part rewarding. If you're calling your dog's name while he is having a great time playing with his friends, the value of that command becomes less and less.
