Osteoarthritis is a condition that's often treated with spinal fusions to reduce pain.
The idea is to limit the motion between adjacent vertebrae. There are heaps of ways to do this with implantable devices like these crews and rods. But it's surgically complex, and the results are not always successful. This UNSW Australia innovation is a device that fuses the spine and controls motion. It's technology that will not just lead to one single, implantable device for surgery. It lends itself whole family of implantable devices and instrument for spinal conditions.
