We’ve seen quite a lot of different options, though all of them have been on the same critical path; none of them have presented a branch in the story that might take you in a different direction, locking out certain choices while making others possible. That’s because we’ve been stuck with Gunther as our sole conscience the entire time and while we have had the option of switching our dialogue type with the mood-o-meter as it were, none of that has led to any branching paths.

That changes upon our return to Kyrandia, when we get to pick which of Gunther and Stewart we keep with us. I decided to take both of them along the first time around, picking the middle-of-the-road choice to get more dialogue from Gunther and Stewart. Little did I know that that choice was the only choice that locked off no choices, allowing me to approach returning to the Isle of Cats with all possible options at that point available. While it does change things later – something I naturally didn’t know the first time around – this part remains entirely open on the ‘neutral’ run.

To see something different we’re going to have to pick only one of the two consciences and why not start with the one we’ve not seen throughout the game until now? It’s time for Malcolm to become a nicer, more caring person… kind of. He’s still going to be Malcolm in the end, just not as mean. Let’s find out just what you can and cannot do with only the nicer of the two along for the rest of the journey, shall we? With any luck, I might even try for the way to leave that isn’t locked off by picking Stewart alone, though knowing my luck that won’t be the case.
