Lecture date: 2006-02-20 Alisa Andrasek is an experimental practitioner of architecture and computational processes in design. In 2001 she founded biothing, a design/computation laboratory whose research focuses on generative potential of physical and digital computational systems for design. The work of biothing is moving away from pre-coded tools to a set of more general and conceptual computational systems and their potency for material praxis, employing design strategies invested in methods of material computation, and by extension, issues of complexity and multiplicity. Alisa Andrasek is a professor of architecture at Columbia University. She was co-winner of the Metropolis Next Generation Design Competition 2005 and received FEIDAD Design Merit Award 2004.
