The BMW 2 Series is a compact executive car replaced the BMW 1 Series coupe and BMW 1 Series convertible in the BMW lineup. It was announced on October 25, 2013. This release is aimed to compete with new models from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, the A3 Sedan and the CLA Class, respectively.

Unlike the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 series feature sleeker headlamps and more aggressive front-end grill. The interior however is similar to that of the BMW 1 Series hatchback.
Although it was the successor of the BMW 1-Series coupe, it is continuing the BMW 02 coupes as a successor in that segment. The name, BMW 2-Series, is based on BMW's rationalization of its model designations reserving odd numbers for BMW 4-door sedans and even numbers for BMW 2-door coupes and BMW coupe-like cars. Currently at launch, there are the basic BMW 2 Series Coupe models BMW 218d, BMW  220d, BMW 220i, BMW 225d, and the range-topping BMW M235i internationally.

The BMW 2 Series Coupe was unveiled in 2014 North American International Auto Show.[1]

Early models include the BMW 220i, BMW M235i, and BMW 220d.[2]

Early American and Canadian BMW 2 Series models include the BMW 228i and BMW M235i.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, officially announced in February 2014, is the first front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout BMW model, an Compact MPV, designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
