Freedom... do we really want it?

This is more of a philosophical question, rather than a political statement.  In the grand scheme of things, do human beings really know what freedom is?  And when confronted with it, do they really want it?  Or is it something that they'd rather run away from?  

I think this is an important question especially in this day and time, when we are hearing this word a lot.  If people are going to try to get others to live as free men and women, they are going to have to know whether or not people want to live that way in the first place.
