A universal problem often begs a universal solution. However, there is no simple solution to the world’s increasingly pressing climate issues. Whether it be revamping infrastructure to adapt to sea level rise or funding efforts to mitigate further damages from emissions, whatever series of initiatives or plans of action we come up with will require a hefty sum of capital investment. Industry and corporations have played a large part in the development of the Anthropocene, nevertheless there is hope if we can find ways to reverse this trend and get corporate to work for climate, rather than against it. Devyn is a junior at Brown University out of Long Beach, California. During his time at Brown, he has worked with the University's curricular resource center to put together a new concentration in Environment and Enterprise, which studies the nexus of climate change, the private sector, and the sociocultural aspects of consumerism and capitalism. Currently, he is serving as the head of shareholder and community engagement for Brown’s Socially Responsible Investment Fund as well as interning with both the Office of Sustainability and the Brown Investment Office. He is also co-authoring a book chapter on the climate and economic resiliency of New England coastal cities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
